2008 Hound Ears Results
Thursday, October 30th, 2008“Summer Ascents 08″ will premiere at the Dragonfly Theatre on the 21st of October. Come drink some beer and watch LVM Rock’s second issue about rock climbing in the Linville Gorge. Cost is $5.00 per person. Proceeds go to Carolina Climbers Coalition.
Hound Ears 2008
This past Saturaday Oct. 4, the 15th annual Hound Ears bouldering comp. came and went. Competitors came from all over the World to climb and compete in a boulder field that is only open for climbing one day a year. There are several categories for competition, ranging from beginner to the open. Climbers are given a score sheet and a map. They are then set loose in the boulder field to send their 10 best problems. Each of those problems have a pre assigned rating and point value. The climbers can try the problems as many times as they want. They only get points if they send the problem. They must have witnesses sign their sheet to keep everyone honest. There was a competitive spirit in the air as people searched for their next problem. The weather was perfect and people were happy as they played in the woods. The comp brought young, old, male, female, families, and loners. This is the first stage in the famous Triple Crown bouldering comp. that takes place every year.
